A Memorable Afternoon of Debate and Discovery
Today, immediately after closing hours, the school auditorium came alive with energy and excitement as students from across the secondary school gathered for the Interclass Debate Competition. The event, organized by the English Language tutors — Mrs. Adeniyi, Mrs. Patricia, and Ms. Funmi — was a resounding success, bringing together students from JSS1 to SS3 in a spirited exchange of ideas and arguments.
The competition was structured to pair classes against each other, each tackling a unique and thought-provoking topic. JSS1 faced off against JSS2, debating whether cartoons have done more harm than good to children. JSS1 emerged victorious, making a strong case for the positive influence of cartoons on creativity and learning. In the next round, JSS3 went head-to-head with SS1 on the topic of whether parents should allow their children to choose their own careers. JSS3 won the debate, impressing the judges with their passionate defense of personal choice and self-determination. Finally, SS2 and SS3 debated whether technology has made the world a better place. SS2 claimed the win, presenting compelling arguments about the transformative power of technology in modern life
Throughout the event, students showcased impressive public speaking skills, critical thinking, and teamwork. The audience was engaged, the judges were attentive, and the atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and pride.
