Africa Day is a day dedicated to celebrating and acknowledging the successes of the organization of Africa Unity (OAU now the AU; African Union) from its creation on May, 25th 1963, in the fight against colonialism and apartheid, as well as the progress that Africa has made while reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent faces in a global environment.
This year, 2024 theme for the Africa Day is ‘Education Fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education system for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa’.
The event was celebrated in Legacy Private School on Friday, 24th May, 2024 with the School’s Director of Social (Mr. Rufus Ezekiel), giving an opening speech on the essence of the Africa Day celebration in schools and the recognition of our identity as Africans. Afterwards, the scholars from different classes went on to make presentations in order of their partitioning into different African countries to represent. The scholars representing various African groups showcased the cultures of their assigned African countries which captured the following features;
drama, history telling, traditional dance steps, local delicacies, greeting pattern of those countries.
